In this very unique role you will work with the latest technology and help develop a variety of features and platforms, from an all-new social platform to an entirely rebuilt internal workflow application. We are looking for an Engineer with solid web development experience and strong Java skills, including experience with Hibernate or other ORM software, familiarity with JSP, and working knowledge of EJB (we use EJB3). To be a good fit for this opportunity you will truly enjoy building well-designed and implemented software, and you will be a generalist -- our developers currently work in all areas of the application stack (database, services, UI, etc.). While Kink.com maintains a highly professional atmosphere, you must be comfortable working in an adult entertainment industry environment.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:

• 7+ years of software development experience; we also will consider candidates with fewer years of overall experience but strong relevant experience with the technologies we use.
• Experience writing JavaScript; exposure to and some usage of libraries such as jQuery is even better.
• A good understanding of CSS.
• A history of getting things done quickly.
• A belief that testing your code is part of the development process.

Experience with the following is preferred but not required:

• Working with CDNs, SSO systems, and/or video production workflows.
• Dealing with cross browser issues in relation to web development.
• Developing and deploying on JBoss or other J2EE container.
• Building web applications with JSP and PHP.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to our Senior Engineering Manager/Architect, you'll join a Development team that includes a PHP Specialist who maintains internal code for our publishing workflow, three Java Engineers developing for our external sites, and an HTML/CSS Developer who handles formatting. You can develop on a Mac or PC, and we try to keep things as simple and straightforward as possible. Java is our base language, our database is MySQL, we use JBoss as our application server, and our persistence engine is based on JPA/Hibernate.

As you might imagine, there is always plenty to do, and Engineers typically take the next project in the stack (we're all generalists). A project may last two to three weeks. Some projects in the works:

• Transitioning from legacy PHP to Java, although we'll continue to have a fairly large PHP base for the foreseeable future.
• Developing a social media platform.
• Completely re-writing our workflow program.
• Creating on-demand formats.
• Enabling webcams.

Your specific activities will include:

• Designing and implementing new features to support internal and external projects.
• Helping to maintain existing systems.
• Helping troubleshoot production issues when they arise.
• Working with other departments to help determine requirements and priorities.
• Documenting your work.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will be smart and conscientious, taking pride in doing things the right way, such as keeping the code base clean. While you'll invest the majority of your time as an individual contributor, you'll also have a collaborative, team player approach to sharing insights and solutions. You'll be proactive about keeping your skills up to date and pragmatic about what tools and methods get used in production.
